WILL OF EDWARD ERWIN (THE IMMIGRANT)

From the AUGUSTA COUNTY, VIRGINIA-WILL BOOK 4-PAGE 480-13 JANUARY 1772

In the name of God Amen, I Edward Erwin of the Long Glade and County of Augusta being sick and weak in Body though Perfect in mind and Memory thanks be to God for it and calling to mind the uncertainty of life and the Certainty of Death it being appointed for all men to die do hereby make my last Will and testament as followeth and;

First, I recommend my (?) soul to God who gave it and my Body to be buried in a Christian like and decent Manner at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as for what worldly substance it hath Pleased God to Bestow upon me it is my Will and desire that all my just debts and funeral charges be duly Paid within Convenient time after my decease and

First, I give and bequeath of my well beloved sons Edward Erwin and Francis Erwin all the moveable Estate that remainth after my decease to be divided equally between them except a Bed and Bedclothes a Pewter dish and two Plates a Chest and side Saddle which I give and bequeath to Francis Brown and likewise (?) a Black Cow and Calf which I give to said Frances Brown provided she behaves well and Marryth by consent and if she behaves ill she is not to have anything and

Calling to mind my son-in-law Robert Law I give and bequeath 2/L to him and I do hereby nominate Constitute and Appoint my trusty and well beloved sons Edward Erwin and Francis Erwin Executors of this my last will and Testament and I do hereby revoke disallow and disannul (?) all other former Will or Wills heretofore made by whether by Word or Writing Approving Rectifying and Confirming this only as my Last Will and Testament and in Witness whereof I do hereunto set my hand and Seal this 13th day of January 1772.

At a Court Continued and held for Augusta County March the 10th 1772 This last Will and Testament of Edward Erwin dec’d was Proved by the Oaths of Edward Ervin and John Erwin two of the Witnesses thereto and Ordered to be Recorded and on the motion of Edward and Francis Erwin the Executors therein named who made Oath according to law Certifiable and Granted them for obtaining a Protical (/) thereof in due form they having with Securitys entered into and acknowledged their Bond according to law.
