Marriage record for Samuel Irwin/Erwin and Mary Reed in Clinton, Vinton, Ohio

in Marriage

This marriage record for Samuel Irwin/Erwin and Mary Reed 28 Oct 1857, was performed by J.P. Benjamin Dill, who lived in Clinton, Vinton, Ohio. There is a Mary Reed, born abt 1838 living in Clinton, Vinton, Ohio in the 1850 census. Samuel Ervin Sr. is living in Clinton, Vinton with son Owen in the 1860 census. Samuel Ervin Jr. is living in Clinton, Vinton in the 1850 census with wife Nancy. He is also living with Nancy in the 1860 census. Samuel D. Ervin (b 1820) is married to wife Nancy in the Clinton, Vinton 1850 census and is still with her in the Appanoose, Iowa census in 1860. There are no other Samuel Er?in's in the vicinity at the time that I can find. Could it be possible that Samuel Ervin Sr actually married again at the age of 92 yrs? And to a minor who father had to give permission?

I suppose anything is

I suppose anything is possible, but what plausible explanation would there be for her absence in the 1860 census, or for the marriage to even take place? Remember, Samuel began presenting symptoms around this time which eventually led him to be detained by the county and declared insane. Most certainly one of the reasons he is living with Owen in his final years. One would think that she'd be in the household helping to care for him at the least or would have been mentioned in Samuel's Writ of Habeas Corpus.

There has to be another Samuel Ervin/Irwin/Erwin that we have overlooked as a possible candidate for this marriage record.
